As the seasons change, your skin changes as well. This means that the things your skin needs change, too! As summer approaches, you’re spending more time outside, getting more skin exposure, and potentially spending a lot of time in and around water, as well. If you’ve been noticing a change in your skin in the last few weeks, here are a few ways to change your skincare routine for the summer weather!
All the SPF
You should have an SPF in your skincare routine year round, but it is especially important during the summer months, when you have more exposure to sun. Check to see if your moisturizer has an SPF in it already. For an spf for your face, you want something with a light formula that won’t clog your pores, so you may need to try a few before you find the one that you love and that works for your skin. You should also consider getting some sort of an spf spray that you can carry around with you and reapply throughout the day to continue to protect your skin on days that you spend a lot of time outside. The great thing about a spray is that, as long as you get one that is sheer, you can apply it over your makeup without smudging your face.
Water based moisturizers
During the summer months, you probably want a lighter moisturizer than you were using during the winter months. Although your skin can still be dry and dehydrated during the summer, it also needs a product that is a bit lighter to prevent clogging. In most cases, during the summer, this usually looks like a water based moisturizer! It is lighter, and therefore will give your skin room to breathe.
Try a tinted moisturizer
The less product on your face during the sweaty months of the summer, the better. A great multi-use product to try for the summer months, is to use a tinted moisturizer! This is especially helpful if it has an SPF. You can eliminate an additional SPF as well as your daily foundation, and use just one high quality tinted moisturizer that has all 3 components in it. This is a great way to ensure that you aren’t clogging your pores with the extra protection that your skin needs when you’re exposed to more sun than usual.
Use glycolic acid to exfoliate
Your skin needs a gentle daily exfoliant, especially when you are going to be sweating more! You don’t want to use a harsh exfoliating scrub very often. For a daily use, a product that contains glycolic acid is a great way to clear away the dead skin and sweat in a gentle way. Try a toner that has glycolic acid in it on a cotton pad.
Cleanse twice a day
Summer often means more humid weather, so if you aren’t already, you should start cleansing your skin twice a day instead of just once at the end of the day. You can also use a micellar water to gently cleanse and remove your makeup as well, which is a great way to cleanse.
Use a wash off self tanner
We all know that tanning is horrible for your skin, and can cause irreparable damage. At the same time, you don’t want to spend your entire summer pale and avoiding the sun. Instead, you can use a wash off self tanner at home, to give you the sunkissed glow you’ve been looking for, without the damage that normally comes with a tan.
