For a family with a young baby in the midst of (re) sleep training, you’d think we’d stay at home a little bit more. And in all honesty, we probably bit off just a tiny bit more than we could chew with our holiday travels this year. It’s been noted, and we’ll plan better for next year. Maybe, haha. We ended up spending the entire week of Thanksgiving in Southern Utah, visiting Seth’s family. For how close we live to them, we don’t visit them as often as we should!
While we were there, Seth actually ended up putting on a benefit holiday show, and it was beautiful. I love getting to see Seth perform and direct, doing the things that he loves. The benefit show was actually the reason we spent an entire week there, rather than just for the holiday. But it was a great experience and a ton of fun. And Bastian just loooved being around so many adoring family members!
Probably one of my favorite part of the trip, was the car we drove while we were there. Our car is notorious for having issues when we make the drive to St. George, so we borrowed a Toyota Avalon Hybrid for the trip, and I don’t think I ever want to make the drive in my own car again! Heated seats(a luxury that most people have, but I definitely don’t haha), spacious seats, and safety features out the wazoo.
The day after we got to St. George, we were headed to brunch and we hit a rock and got a flat tire. The display screen immediately showed the tire pressure dropping. We were able to pull over and get the tire changed before there was any real damage done. After our minor setback, we were heading to breakfast, and Seth remarked that, had we been in our car, we wouldn’t have noticed until the tire was actually flat, rather than just damaged. There was no change in the way the car was driving but the rock had ripped through the tire. It definitely is making us consider investing in a newer car with more safety features. We’ve been stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire before and it just isn’t fun, haha.
I promise I’m almost done talking about this car. Buuuut one of my favorite things about this car was the fact that it was a hybrid! The gas mileage was amazing, and the interior heated up super quickly because it didn’t need to rely on gas to do so.
In other Thanksgiving news, Bastian has been teething since he was 2.5 months old. The week of Thanksgiving, I told Bastian that if he cut a tooth by Thanksgiving, I’d let him have a bite of pie. Somebody woke up with a new tooth on Thanksgiving morning, and that same somebody got a bite of pumpkin pie later that day. Now he’s got three teeth and is working on cutting a few more! Our fingers are crossed that as soon as he’s cut these ones, his sleeping schedule will regulate again.
