I’ve never been to California. Never. Once I had a layover in Long Beach, but that’s it. About a month ago, we were looking at flights on Kayak(a somewhat depressing hobby of ours) and saw that roundtrip tickets to San Francisco were only $100. Since I’d never been, and it’s one of Seth’s favorite cities, we decided we had to take advantage.
We did all the touristy things. Walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, drove down Lombard street, and ate Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl on Pier 39.
We also stayed in an absolutely gorgeous Airbnb while we were there. It was a loft right by the Twitter building that overlooked city hall. It had gorgeous spacious windows and it had an amazing view of San Francisco.
One of my favorite slightly less touristy things we did there was visit the Golden Gate Park. We didn’t walk through the whole thing, because Bastian was getting tired and I was dumb enough to wear new shoes that day. But what we did see was amazing. We thought about going back and renting a paddle boat to take out on Stow lake, but didn’t get around to it. That’ll be on our list of things to do next time we visit!
If you’re looking for a relatively easy hike to take in San Francisco, I highly recommend Land’s End. It was an easy hike but the entire thing was breathtaking. We walked along the coast for about an hour, round trip.
When we went to Nashville a few months ago, we made the mistake of assuming taking public transportation everywhere we needed to go with a baby would be easy. It wasn’t. While we were there, we ended up renting a car last minute. We didn’t want to make the same mistake this time, and we ended up driving around this car from Mitsubishi. I’m not a car person, but I’ll be honest when I say that coming home to drive our Camry after driving the 2017 Outlander Sport for a few days, was a disappointment in comparison. I’m working on convincing Seth that we need to buy one.
I asked everyone for food recommendations on my Instagram, and we loooved trying some of them out. My favorite places we went were Sightglass Coffee, Blue Bottle Coffee, and then we got some great clam chowder and fish and chips on Pier 39. At Sightglass, I got an Affogato, which is something I’d never tried before. It was absolutely heavenly!
Bastian did relatively well on this trip! He got a little bit cranky on the flight home, but that’s just because he was so tired. We spent all day Wednesday catching up on naps and getting him back into his regular sleep routine.
