I’ve had a lot of people ask me when this post would be live, and I’m so sorry that it’s been so delayed! The last time I posted a Postpartum update was at 6 weeks postpartum. I’m now a little past 3 months postpartum. Last months update is missing due to a very unexpected emergency appendectomy. That definitely threw a wrench in my recovery plans, haha. But now that I’m recovered and back to Pure Barre, let’s get right into the update!
So, I got appendicitis at 8 weeks postpartum. I had just barely started working out again when I got sick. My doctor told me I’d need to take at least a three week break from exercise. Honestly, I was pretty upset. I had just started working out and was starting to gain confidence in my postpartum body, and then I had to completely halt and wait a whole three weeks. It was definitely a setback.
However, my doctor also told me that the best way to recover quickly was to keep moving by going on daily walks(after the first 48 hours). So I went on a short walk almost every single day. This way, I was able to jump back into pure barre at about 12 weeks postpartum. And I really focused on my diet during those weeks.
We started eating at home a lot more. I honestly love cooking, I’d just kind of forgot that I did while I was pregnant. About a month back I did a roundup of a few of my favorite quick, healthy(ish) meals. You all really liked that post, so keep an eye out for another round up in a few weeks! Eating at home helped me continue my postpartum recovery while I wasn’t able to workout.
And then about three weeks ago I started going back to Pure Barre! It’s been a little hard, honestly, because my stomach is so so weak. Having a baby and then an appendectomy really did a number on my abs. I know my limits, and the instructors all know about both the baby and the appendectomy, so I just take it easy when I need to. That’s one of the things I love most about Pure Barre. It’s low impact. So even though it’s a tough workout, it’s easy on my body. If that even makes sense.
I still don’t own a scale, and I don’t think I’m going to anytime soon. I don’t want to tie my worth to a number on a scale, and so I’m just trying to be happy with the way I look in the mirror. My biggest goal right now is to work on tightening the skin on my stomach. While I’ve definitely slimmed down, that skin is still pretty saggy from being pregnant. And I know that exercise is going to be the only way I achieve that, so I’ve been trying to consistently go to Pure Barre three times a week. Because I’m a mom and life happens, sometimes that’s only twice a week, but I’ve been trying to stay as consistent as possible.
