Let’s talk hair for a minute. Specifically, postpartum hair. Luckily, not everyone has postpartum hair loss, and those people are really lucky. Basically as soon as I had Bastian, all of my hair started falling out. I’m now 7 months postpartum, and my bald spots are finnaaallllyy starting to fill back in with baby hairs. It’s about time.
With all of my hair falling out, I needed to take care of my hair just a little bit better. I’ve always struggled to keep my hair healthy, but the last seven months tested me. For all the other mamas out there who are having the same postpartum hair struggles, here are my tips and favorite products.
-Get a manageable hair cut/color
I’ve bleached my hair a LOT, and it’s the main reason my hair is unhealthy. Being platinum blonde is high maintenance and it can wreak havoc on your hair. Since I’m already struggling to keep my postpartum hair healthy, I decided to update my hair color about a month before Bastian was born. I’m still platinum blonde, but my roots are darker and blended. So I can go months and months without going in to get a touch up(because we all know that going in every 3 weeks to touch up your roots is impossible as a mom). Make sure you get a hair girl you can really trust, though. I found the cutest girl, Muriel, who started doing my hair earlier this year. She is seriously the best, and I’m obsessed.
-The right products
Using the right products makes SUCH a difference. If I stop using what I know works for my hair, it gets dry, frizzy, and brittle almost instantly. Not all products work for the same people! Here are my favorites:
Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner – This is what Muriel always uses on me and my hair always feels softest and healthiest when I leave her house!
It’s a 10 Leave in Spray – This is another product that my hair girl recommends! I think that a leave in conditioner spray is one of the most important products you can have for your hair! I always spray it on the ends of my hair on the days that I don’t wash my hair, to make sure that it stays moisturized.
Cowash – Whenever I feel like shampoo is maybe a little bit too harsh for my hair, I use a coconut cowash for a few days! This one is my favorite. You use it like shampoo, but it doesn’t lather.
Argan Oil Hair Mask – I swear by this hair mask. About every other wash, I use this instead of conditioner. I also use it any time my hair just feels like it needs some extra moisture and lovin’!
OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Conditioner – This is a fairly new product find for me, but I’ve been using it for the past month and it has made a serious difference in how my hair feels on a regular basis! It makes my hair feel silky the moment I put it in.
