Everyone knows that going through a big transition makes it kind of hard to dress your body. When you’re pregnant, you suddenly need to dress this growing bump. As soon as you get the hang of it, you have to relearn it all because it’s gotten bigger. Postpartum is no different. There is often a misconception that you’ll be able to fit in your pre-pregnancy jeans immediately after delivery. RARELY does that actually happen. So, you have to learn to dress your newly postpartum body. And chances are, you’ll have to buy a few new items of clothing to go with this new postpartum body. Which is why you need a postpartum capsule wardrobe.
The postpartum stage can be really awkward. Most of your pre-pregnancy clothes won’t fit. But for a lot of people, myself included, it’s only a matter of a few months to a year before you start fitting into your pre-pregnancy clothes again. Which is why I love thrifting clothes for your postpartum interim. I love thrifting for all seasons of life, but especially when you know you’ll only be fitting in those clothes for a short period of time. I got all of the thrifted items for my postpartum capsule wardrobe at Uptown Cheapskate in American Fork!
I put together a postpartum capsule wardrobe to get me through these transitional fall months. I tried to be conscious of the season and pick items that were meant to be oversized or have a relaxed fit so they could continue to be a regular part of my wardrobe once I have lost the baby weight. When picking items for your postpartum wardrobe, you want to stick to flattering silhouettes and most importantly, a flattering waist. So I chose a LOT of high waisted things!
Postpartum Capsule wardrobe necessities
Let’s start with bottoms. Every outfit starts with finding the right pair of bottoms, and then pairing a top and then shoes with it. So, for my capsule wardrobe, these are the bottoms I chose:
-High waisted blue jeans
-Overall Dress
-Faux Suede high waisted skirt
-High waisted pin striped pants
A good capsule wardrobe will have a few items that can be worn with basically anything(like the jeans) and a few items that are more of a statement piece(like the striped pants or overall dress). Having a capsule wardrobe doesn’t mean having a boring wardrobe. You just want most items in that wardrobe to be versatile.

-Multi color mock neck top
-Green sweater
-Color block sweater
-Tan/Cream sweater
For most of my tops, I chose oversized fits that I knew would be forgiving. I also chose a mock neck because I think it is the perfect neckline for fall and I know it’s something that I personally will reach for over and over again and never get sick of it.

Outerwear
Choosing accessories and outwear to pair with your outfits is key to completing your wardrobe. This gives you a lot more outfit opportunities because you have so many more things to mix and match.
-Camel colored duster cardigan
-Grey duster cardigan
One item I didn’t get but will probably get to add to my capsule wardrobe is a denim jacket! It’s such a versatile piece and goes with practically anything, but keeps the outfit casual.

You can’t go wrong with black when it comes to fall shoes. Black goes with basically anything. Having a few different types of boots gives you versatility, but the warmth that a pair of flats might not provide!
