Summer is usually one of my favorite seasons. I love going to the pool(even though I don’t really like swimming), going on walks in the sun, and eating shaved ice. I still love all these things, but summertime is definitely a little different this year, having a young baby and all that. I mean, my entire life is different now that I have a baby. I love it, though! This summer is all about cuddles for days, buying cute new shorts for my baby, and still eating lots of shaved ice.
This months Let’s Talk Motherhood series is all about how to spend the hot summer with your babes(even if they’re not really babies anymore).
1. What are your favorite summertime activities with your little ones? Honestly, we don’t do a lot. Bastian is so little that we don’t really do a lot of stuff outdoors. Our favorite activity is sitting in front of the AC and watching Netflix. 😉 Haha, no, probably my favorite thing is a few times a week, we put B in the stroller and walk down to the shaved ice shack downtown(I told you guys, I really love shaved ice). Our city does a foodtruck rally every Wednesday night we love taking Bastian to, too!
2. How do you help keep your young ones cool when it’s hot outside? Well, for one, no pants. If I know it’s hot outside, I take his pants and socks off and put them in my diaper bag, and then re-dress him when we get wherever we’re going. He’s so little that he still can’t fully regulate his temperature on his own, so I also just try not bringing him outside when it’s really hot, if I know we’ll be spending most of the time outside.
3. How do you handle having less time in the summer, since your kids are out of school? I’ll get back to you all on this in a few years, since Lil B is a little too young for school. 😉
4. At what age were your kids when you started taking family summer vacations with them? Maybe we’re a bit ambitious, but we’re actually taking our first trip with Bastian tomorrow. We’ve gone on a few short road trips, like 4 hours. But tomorrow we’re boarding a plane and taking him to Nashville. I’m crossing my fingers that flying with a teething 3 month old goes well, so stay tuned, haha.
5. What tips would you suggest for new moms travelling with their little ones for the first time? This advice is just as much for me as it is for anyone else. Don’t stress about it. Your baby is probably going to cry, and that’s okay! They’re a baby. Just try to relax and enjoy the time you have while your baby is still a baby. And plan a trip without very many activities, so you can work around nap time without feeling too stressed out.
