When I used to live in Downtown Salt Lake City, I definitely didn’t take appreciate it. Probably because I was constantly working, but I really didn’t do much in the time I lived there. I lived right downtown, just up the street from Temple Square. Everyday I’d walk a mile or so to get to work, and then come home to sit in my apartment and do absolutely nothing. Now, whenever Seth and I head to Downtown Salt Lake City, I forget that I used to live there. Because my experiences going back to visit are so different than when I lived there.
I think I got most of the typically “touristy” things out of my system, when I lived downtown. I’d go to Temple Square regularly, walk around City Creek “for fun”, and toured the Beehive house. I used to work at one of the hotels downtown, so I had a pretty good idea of what tourist goodies downtown Salt Lake City had to offer. Now, when Seth and I go back, we like to spend more time just enjoying being in a city setting.
Honestly, I kind of miss living in a city. Until I go back home where there’s less noise and less traffic. Going back and spending a day downtown definitely cures that city craving for a bit, and then I can go back to good ol’ Lehi.
Seth and I often complain that there isn’t good coffee in Utah. To be fair, a lot of the coffee in Utah tastes burnt, or like dirt, or both simultaneously. One of my favorite places, which will come as a shock to no one living in Utah, is Publik coffee. Seth had never been, so when we decided to take a day trip to downtown Salt Lake City last week, we had to make a pit stop at Publik.
During the summers, we love walking around the city. When it’s cold, though, we prefer to drive around the city. We’ll see a good photo spot and find a quick place to park, and then get back in and drive around some more. Whilst blasting the Trolls: The Beat Goes On soundtrack, obviously.
