When I first started blogging when I was in highschool, at the end of every week I made a post called “Awkward and Awesome Fridays”. I would just do a little summary of all of the awkward and awesome things that had happened that week. Back then, my blogging was more just blogging about any thought or experience I had, and less about actually writing for an audience. So a lot of those things I left behind when I started blogging here, on this website.
But I really love the idea of bringing back Awkward and Awesome Fridays. Within the blogging and social media world, there isn’t always a lot of transparency. Most bloggers lives seem perfect; their house is never dirty, their children never misbehave, and their hair is always clean(because somehow they actually get a chance to shower more than once every 4 days, right?). I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating the good parts of our lives, but I think it’s important to celebrate the not so perfect parts of our lives, too. So, I’m bringing back my Awkward and Awesome Friday posts. I’ll be making bi-monthly posts talking all about the most awkward things that happened in the last two weeks, and all of the very best things that happened, too.
AWKWARD:
We went to go get the oil changed on Tuesday, and there was a really long line, so we were sitting in the waiting room for a while. Bastian was pretty well behaved, but after a while, as I’m holding him, he starts pooping, and he has the LOUDEST, grossest sounding poops. There was a guy sitting next to us on his laptop who looked horrified and stunned, and I got so embarrassed.
I went to In-n-Out with my sister’s family before they moved earlier this week. I pulled into the parking lot and Bastian was being really fussy, so I climbed into the back to feed him before walking in. I totally walked all the way into the restaurant afterwards with my shirt pulled up over my bra and didn’t notice until I got to the doors and saw my reflection, and a group of college kids were looking at me very uncomfortably.
Yesterday, a stranger messaged me on Facebook asking me if I’d been using my breast pump.
I was feeding Bastian in the back seat of the car at Walmart and I had the window down a little because it was hot. A walmart employee was gathering up carts and walked past, glanced at me, and then looked very startled to see a breastfeeding woman looking back at him.
Most of these awkward moments have to do with feeding Bastian in the car. That’s because he’s started this new thing where as soon as I start driving, he cries and screams until I stop the car and come back and feed him, even if I fed him right before we left.
AWESOME:
My parents came into town, and Bastian got to meet my dad and one of my little brothers.
I started going back to Pure Barre! (and loving it)
We went to Bastian’s 6 week checkup, and he’s gained 3 pounds since he was born! He’s now 10 pounds, 12 ounces.
Bastian is only waking up twice a night to feed now.
We went on a date to The Italian Place in Orem, which is where we had our first date, and got to take Bastian with us.
I laughed so hard with the awkward moments and could totally see myself doing the same! Congrats on the weight gain of the little guy and I’m glad you got to see your parents! 🙂
