One of my favorite things about traveling, is the food. I love getting to try as many different kinds of food as possible, to really get a taste of the culture of where I’m visiting. Whenever we travel somewhere new, we ask for recommendations for the best local eats. I don’t want to go to New York City, and eat dinner at an IHOP(we did this once and it’s one of my biggest regrets). I once asked for restaurant recommendations in Salt Lake, my own backyard, and had someone suggest the Melting Pot. As if the Melting Pot was a Salt Lake City original restaurant, a must see spot. I want to help everyone else avoid that, so I compiled a list of a few of the best places to eat in Salt Lake City!
Breakfast and coffee in Salt Lake City
Breakfast is, hands down, my favorite meal. I’ll choose french toast over basically any other meal, thank you very much.
Hub and Spoke
We went to Hub and Spoke for the first time last week, and we’re already making plans to go back. I would dare to say that they had the best coffee I’ve had in Utah. If you’re looking for a spot with a fun vibe, incredible service, and unique flavors, this is the place for you. I got the eggs benedict, which is my default choice if I’m strangely not in the mood for French Toast.
Tulie Bakery
Eating breakfast at Tulie is truly a treat. They have great lattes, and a wide array of pastries, sandwiches, and other goods. The breakfast menu includes a mouth watering Crouque Monsier, which you are now obligated to order there. The entire front wall of the restaurant is glass, which fits the trendy aesthetic vibe you get as soon as you walk in.
Publik
If you’ve ever had a cup of coffee in Utah, you’ve heard of Publik. My favorite coffee in Utah is reserved for Hub and Spoke, but I love the vibe at Publik. Their seasonal drinks keep me coming back, and although they aren’t really a place to eat in Salt Lake City, it still makes the list.
Lunch and Dinner spots in Salt Lake City
Spitz
I have walked past Spitz over a dozen times before I actually went in, and now I’m just wishing I had so much sooner. One of my favorite things about Spitz is that they are dog friendly! Bring your furry friend and have them hang out in the patio seating outside. We loved their Mediterranean fare and the laid back vibe, and their drinks were phenomenal.
Stanza
Stanza is as classy as Spitz is casual. I’d like to thank my son for thoroughly embarrassing me during this classy meal, but I’d also like to thank our server for being patient even when Bastian threw his food on the ground. Over and over. The food at Stanza was incredible. I got the duck, Seth got the Veal, and you’d be a fool to think we didn’t also have dessert. (their tiramisu was to die for)
Spencer’s
Another upscale spot, is Spencer’s. Spencer’s will always hold a spot in my heart(and stomach) because I used to work at the hotel adjacent to it. Seth and I always tell ourselves that we will try new things on the menu, but then both end up ordering filet mignon. It’s too good not to.
Desserts and the sweet stuff to eat in Salt Lake City
Okay, the only thing I maybe love more than breakfast? Dessert.
Last Course
If I could eat at Last Course every single day, I would. They’ve got an amazing affogato(espresso with icecream, for the layman), which I feel like is impossible to find in Utah. Seth loves their upside down apple pie, and all of their ice cream flavors are divine(get their ice cream in a waffle cone, because why wouldn’t you get a waffle cone).
Normal Ice cream
There’s something about a food truck that just makes everything more novel and taste better. The Normal truck is stationary INSIDE trolley square, which is convenient, as it was snowing the day we went. Their ice cream is creative and incredible(our friend got ice cream stuffed in a DONUT, do you even need another reason to go??).
What did I miss? I know that there are so many amazing places to eat downtown, I couldn’t possibly include them all in one post. What are your favorite places to eat in Salt Lake City?
